Pez

“I don’t paint to express anything in particular, I paint for enjoyment – my work is designed to spread happiness and good vibrations to the people who see it.”  Pez (meaning ‘fish’ in English) began painting graffiti on the outskirts of Barcelona in 1999 and has been spreading what he calls 'Happy Style' across the world ever since. Growing up in the 80s the work of Keith Haring had a huge influence, namely its instant visual impact and infectious positive message. Pez’s desire to communicate a similarly contagious, universal message of positivity led to a move away from his earlier text based style and to the birth of his signature fish characters who are always smiling. “It’s essential that my artworks are appreciated by as many people as possible. Everybody can read images, not everybody can read words.” As Pez’s style has developed, so has the family of characters that feature in his work, all of which feature the huge, unmistakeable smile that is the cornerstone of Happy Style. A die-hard traveller and a highly prolific artist, Pez’s work can be found in cities across the world, including London, Barcelona, Hamburg, Paris, Amsterdam, Oslo, Bratislava, Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Houston, Vancouver, Caracas, Bogota, Lima, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul & Taipei.
